Day 34 - January 27 & 28, 2017 - Monument Lake, Big Cypress National Preserve , Ochopee, Florida

We have reservations for four days at Midway in the Big Cypress National Preserve beginning on  1/29/17. Staying at the Boardwalk RV Resort for an additional two days is not possible because they are filling up so we had to make alternative plans.

We stopped at Midway to ask if they had any additional days available but they do not so we drove the 8 miles to Monument Lake. When we arrived at Monument Lake we were asked if we had reservations????? Nope, and never had to make reservations in the past. Monument Lake was a walk-up only CG  but I guess the rules changed. Fortunately we got there early enough to get a site. We requested two nights but the CG host was hesitant to give us two nights stating we may have to move if someone makes a reservation for our second night here. He told us to only pay for one night then changed his mind and had us pay for two nights.

We have very intermittent internet access but when we were able to connect we went on line and found that the site we were assigned is a walk-up only site and cannot be reserved on line. So we were good for the two nights. We love it here and enjoy the beautiful sunset from our site.

On day two a couple from Middleboro, MA pull in next to us. They were very friendly and we enjoyed talking with them. Later that afternoon we took a ride to the Visitor Center. The last two times we have been here the Visitor Center was closed so it was nice to go in and watch the film on the National Preserve. Of course we had to check out the alligators by the building. There were not as may here as there have been in the past.

That evening Cathy & Ray invited us to sit by their campfire and chat. Cathy worked for Agar another food service company. She also knew many of the people Ron knows from Sysco so they had a very interesting conversation. Lol  It was an enjoyable evening for us and we all plan on getting together when we get back home. Tomorrow we will be moving to Midway for four days and will actually have electricity.
